Nearly twelve years ago, I was a candidate (i.e. interviewing or auditioning) for the South Berne Congregational Christian Church’s Senior Pastor position.
I was pretty sure, though not 100% certain, that were I fortunate enough to be selected, I would accept the offer.
Every time I had preached and fellowshipped after the service, over the course of the year of my candidacy, I loved all my interactions with the people. I loved the rural country charm.
But. But…I wasn’t totally certain.
So, what changed? What made me certain?
The tipping point for me occurred during the fellowship time after a Church a service while talking with one of the revered men in the Church.
As we spoke, a couple of times during the conversation, he swore.
No F-bombs or anything super vulgar. But this respected leader of the congregation did drop a couple of curse words.
God used that incident to finalize the deal that He was indeed calling me to this Church.
What I loved about that interaction, the authenticity of it all serves of one of the primary reasons why I would invite anyone to be a part of our Church family.
What you see is what you get with this man and many others in our Church.
Often times, when people find out I’m a pastor, they immediately change the way they talk or they quickly put out their cigarette.
To me, that person is not being their true authentic self.
I’m honored to serve as the pastor of this Church.
And if you’re someone looking for authenticity in a church family.
If you’re tired of “fake people” who say one thing to your face and another behind your back….I invite you to join us.
We’re a Church where…“what you see is what you get.”
